CUTS – BREAK UPS – SHAKE UPS AT TOP LOCAL BASED TRACK CLUBS

Photo: Women’s 400m National champion Christine Day is among a slew of local athletes that will be in new training camps when the new track and field season begins.

Following hot on the heels of the recent uproar surrounding issues related to athletes, and their bemoaning greater supporter from the Government and the JAAA, is another story of several local based athletes who will have to find new training facilities, if they intend to continue their track and field career.

News was being circulated over the past week and half of fall outs and break-ups involving athletes who just competed at the 2015 Beijing World Championships. This has been followed by more speculation and unconfirmed reports of more athletes, from both the MVP and Racers track clubs, having to pack their bags and go.

Among those names being circulated are 4x400m relay and Commonwealth Gold medalist, reigning national 400m champion Christine Day and Sprint relay gold medalist and 100m world championship finalist Natasha Morrison, falling out of favour with administrators at the Stephen Francis led track club MVP.

The earliest of the news came, regarding 200m specialist Annisha McLaughin- Whilouby who was off on a year’s break, has departed to join forces with former high school coach Maurice Wilson at the GC Foster based Sprint Tech track club.

Other members from the MVP who have taken the highway are 400M runner Ryker Hylton, Jonique Day , Ricardo Cunningham and fresh speculations of the 400M hurdler, the Diamond Queen and Commonwealth Champion Kaliese Spencer, also on her way out.

The Glen Mills camp is also reported to have cut ties with former national and top female sprinter Kerron Stewart and young 400m hurdles talent Ristanana Tracey, with rumors of below par performance during the season being cited as the reason. Both athletes have been battling injuries for the past two seasons and struggling to regain top form.

Headed out of the club is sprinter Schilonie Calvert, who is alleged to have gone over to join the Asafa Powell camp, led by his brother Donavan Powell.

The remaining list of athletes being rumored to have departed from the Racers Club are young 400m talent Asani Hall formerly of Petersfeild High, Jermaine Gayle, Demar Murray and Shavon Barnes.
