Jamaican track and field fans were rocked with the news on Tuesday, that three of their athletes have been poached by Middle Eastern country Bahrain.

The three athletes are Olympic silver medal winner Shericka Williams, and sprinters Andrew Fisher and Kemarley Brown.

Rumors had been swirling around at the recently held National Championships of the impeding switch and have now been confirmed by the General Secretary of the JAAA, Mr. Garth Gayle.

Williams is a highly decorated athlete for Jamaica, winning a number of relay medals in the 4x400m but her most significant achievements would be her Olympic and World Championship silver medals won in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

Fisher and Brown are seen as two emerging talents with Fisher joining the “sub-10 club” just a few days ago with a personal best of 9.94s in a meet in Madrid, Spain. Brown is also a sub-10 runner with a personal best of 9.93.

Jamaica is regarded as the sprint capital of the world and with so much competition for places at major track and field championships lots of athletes are left disappointed. The news is sure to make Jamaican fans jittery as they wonder if there will be more to follow.
