A BIG DAY FOR THOMPSON AND FISHER IN MADRID, SPAIN

Photo: UTech’s Elaine Thompson produced another sub-11 clocking in the 100m when she ran 10.90s in Madrid Spain on Saturday.

Reigning National 200 m champion and 2015 newest sprint sensation Elaine Thompson, secured top spot at the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Madrid, Spain . Bursting from the blocks and gliding down the track, a very fluid looking Thompson turned back the challenge of American Barbara Pierre and South African Carina Horn.

Running into a + 1.0m/s headwind she stopped the clock in 10.90 seconds, a new meeting record. Pierre was timed in 11.05 seconds and Horn with a time of 11.10 seconds.

Andrew Fisher clocked a new personal best, 9.94s for second spot behind winner American Mike Rodgers who won in 9.88 seconds. The other Jamaican in the race Michael Frater finished down the track in 7th spot 10.19. Fisher’s teammate Julian Forte was disqualified in the heats of the event.

Rusheen McDonald was timed at 45.04s for fifth spot in the men’s 400 m, which was won by 18 year old Qatar Athlete, Abdaleah Haroun in 44.63s ahead of USA’s David Verburg 44.72s and finishing third was South African Yousef Masarhi in 44.79.

Jason Morgan 59.32 m was only good enough for 4th in the Men’s Discus Throw. The event was won by Apostolos Parellis of Cyprus with a mark of 60.79m.
