Calabar High easily captured their third consecutive ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships in 2014 with some outstanding and scintillating performances. But can they make it title number 25 and will it be a walk in the park or will they be made to work harder this year?

Staying true to their motto, they will be seeking to reach the highest, by giving their utmost best.

It should be noted that their quest will not be such an easy one as they will be hard pressed by arch rivals Kingston College, along with the, likes of Jamaica college and St Jago High School.

The green-and-black-clad boys from Red Hills Road, nicknamed RABALAC, easily dispatched their rivals, rattling up 305 points to win by a huge 96.5-point margin. KC finished second with 208.5 ahead of JC in third with 190 points. St Jago with 158.5 were fourth ahead of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) on 123 points last year.

One of calabar most memorable performances of Champs 2014 came via 400m runner and past student Javon ‘Donkey Man’ Francis who smashed the 400m record held by World and Olympic champion Usain Bolt as they made it a three-peat at the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships.

Some of Calabar top ammunitions for 2015 will include the likes of top two athletes for Class One 110m hurdlers Micheal Ohara ( 13:57), and 6th place finisher from 2014 Seanie Selvin (13:65).

Ohara ( 10:33 secs) is also looking to show up big in the Class One Boys 100m, following his false start in last year semifinals. His teammate Julanie Walker (10.56 secs) is one of his toughest competitors so far this season. He should be a strong bet in the Class One Boys 200m, looking to build on his bronze medal from last year at championship.

The Class 2 Boys 100m sprinter Tyreke Wilson is hot on the heels of KC strong man Jhevaugh Mattherson and has shown excellent form this year.

Class three sprint hurdlers Alex Robinson and Dejour Russell and Class One 400m hurdler Norman Pickersgill and his teammate Akeeme Robinson are looking to score big in the hurdles events for ‘Rabalac’.

The sensational Christopher Taylor ( Class 2) and Tajair Jackson (Class 3) should strike big for the Red Hill Roads boys.

Top ranked Class 1 long jumpers in Julanie Walker and Travis Riley along with their throwers squad in classes should perform excellently with the charge being led by Class One discuss thrower and top contender Warren Barrett Jr (54:86m).

It won’t be a stroll in the park for Coach Michael Clarke and his boys but, any have narrowed it down to those who need it more, who will fight harder, bearing in mind that the battle is for the strong and the race is for the swift.

Champs on March 24- 28, 2015 is the place to see the highly anticipated and very intriguing battle for 2015…..!
