The Neil Harrison Coached boys signaled to the crowd that gathered within the national stadium for the 14th staging of the Queens Grace Jackson Invitational on Saturday, that not only is that “The Brave” doesn’t yield but that they aren’t afraid to send out the early warnings, as they threw down the gauntlet with some stellar performances in the one lap events on the stadium track.

Their Coach Harrison, who in past has led his charges to 1600m relay dominance while marshalling the all boys institution over in St Elizabeth, Munroe College.

The Class three and Class one male athletes dominated the boys 400m, copping four of the top eight places in both classes.

The boys in the lower class, were the first to grace the track in four separate heats, with the young class four prospect Shanthamoi Brown taking the first track event of the day in a time of 51.7s to finish second overall to teammate Roshawn Rowe who secured heat three in a meet record of 51.5s. Joshua Tennant, 53.9s and Davion Williams 54.4s followed suit, and secured top two finishes in their respective heats to finish fifth and seventh overall.

The athletes were separated by David Edmondson, of Wolmer’s Boys who secured the overall fourth spot in a time of 52.9s, fifth spot went to Tajay Jackson of Calabar High 53.0s with Jamaica College Eleon Wright ,sixth in 54.2s.

The Class one athletes continued the Fortis dominance as they secured the podium finishes led by the former Vere Technical High athlete Twayne Crooks, KC 47.5s ahead of teammates Akeem Bloomfield, 47.7s and Marco Doodnaughtsingh, 48.3s. The fourth competitor in the event Davie Brown secured eighth place overall in 49.5s.

It is often said that history will repeat itself, and just like in the glory days of celebrated quarter milers such as Rupert Hoillete, Ian Stapleton, Trevor Campbell and Davian Clarke .

Some other top athletes to achieve success in the 400m in the last decade include Andre Peart, 2004 and Leford Green, 2006. In more recent time Nathaniel Bann and Dontre Williams gave the purple powers the Class two quenella in event at the 2012 Boys and Girls championship.

The signs are clear that Calabar will have to work hard to retain the Mortimer Geddes Trophy that was last brought home to the North Street Based Institution Trophy Cabinet since 2009. KC secured third spot in 2010, second in 2011 and 2012, third in 2013 and a distant second at last year’s championships.
