Ten Million raised at 3rd staging of the CB Group UWI 5K

KINGSTON, Jamaica; The University of the West Indies was presented with a cheque of $10 Million from Alicia Bogues, Brand Manager of the CB Group for funds raised through the 3rd annual CB Group UWI 5K and Smart Egg Kids K events on Sunday, November 16. The presentation was made to Vice Chancellor E. Nigel Harris at a ceremony at the University of the West Indies Regional Headquarters on Tuesday, December 16.

The cheque represents the combination of funds raised from registered participants as well as corporate and personal donations from the institution’s Alumni contingent. The proceeds will continue funding the University’s scholarship initiative (50 Scholarship recipients to date). Additionally, a Peritoneal Dialysis Cycler will be donated to the University Hospital of the West Indies’ (UHWI) Dialysis Unit at a date to be announced.

Mrs. Elizabeth Buchanan-Hind, Executive Director for the Institutional Advancement Division in the Office of the Vice Chancellor and head of the organizing committee was pleased with the support the run received in this its third staging.

“I am elated with the participation this year. The run was well received and supported by the University community as well as the Alumni and corporate Jamaica. The cause is extraordinarily worthy and we are thankful to all our supporters as we hope to continue grow each year,” said Buchanan-Hind.

With close to 4,000 participants this year, the CB Group UWI 5K and Smart Eggs Kids K managed to almost double the number of registrants from the 2013 staging. The race was run under the patronage of Honourable Douglas Orane, CD and Mr. Howard Mitchell in honour of race director Alfred ‘Franno’ Francis.

Brand Manager for the CB Group, Alicia Bogues, today (Tuesday, December 16) presented the University of the West Indies with a cheque of $10 Million to represent the funds generated from the 3rd Annual, CB Group UWI 5K Run and Smart Egg Kids K.
