Tough Going for Jamaican Athletes at 22nd CAC Games

After Raymond Brown, landed Jamaica its first Track and field Medal at the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games on day three of competition, day four was to be a day of futile efforts. All the athletes on show failed in their to increase the nations medal tally.

Brown who represented Jamaica at the World Championships in Russia last year and the Commonwealth Games in Scotland in August, landed a bronze medal in the men’s shot put event with a distance of 18.30m to finish behind Mexican pair of Mario Cota (19.30m) and Christopher Saenz (19.27m).

Jamaica’s hopes in the quarter mile events was dashed when Samantha Curtis who advanced to the final with a time 55.24 for third in her semi-final race in 55.24 seconds failing to show for the final of the event.The two male competitors in male, Alvin Green and Kegan Campbell both failed to advance today’s finals after finishing down the track in their respective semi finals. Green was last in his semi-final in 48.93 seconds, while Campbell finished fifth in 48.56 seconds

Curtis (24.27s) and Gayon Evans (24.33) competing in the women’s 200m had identical 5th place finishes in their respective semi finals, both failing to move on.

Nassive Powell finished sixth in heat one in 22.04 failing to advance to the finals while teammate Marzel Miller also finished sixth in heat four in 22.62 seconds failing to make the cut as well.

Andre Clarke who was a no show for the men’s 400m hurdles, was down to compete in semifinal number one.

Aubrey Allen jump of 7.03 was only good enough for 13th in the men’s long jump final.
