Westmoreland win by 8 wickets in Kingston Wharves U15 Cricket

Westmoreland, former champion of the Kingston Wharves Under 15 Cricket Competition defeated Hanover by eight wickets yesterday in a low scoring match. Hanover was invited to take first strike but were quickly all out for forty-nine in just twenty-three overs. None of the batsmen made any meaningful contribution while Rajay Simpson was the main destroyer taking five for fourteen.

Westmoreland came in and made light work of the paltry total after racing to fifty for two to end the match quite early at Elgin Town Cricket Ground in Hanover. Sam Sanderson made twenty-five not out.

St. Elizabeth was also in the ‘winner’s circle’ after they defeated Clarendon by two wickets at Jamalco Sports Club in Clarendon. Clarendon batted first and were all out for 110 in 30.4 overs. Two battsmen got among the runs in Derrick Cooper twenty-two and Jerome Banner twenty. Renaldo Jacobs 4-19 and Geovannie Townsend 3 for 20 took the bulk of the wickets.

St. Elizabeth replied with one hundred and eleven for eight wickets in twenty-seven overs. Romario Moxam 39 and Roberto Simpson 23 combined to give their team the win over Clarendon at their home ground. Mario Duncan 3 for 26 in 9 overs and Romain Silva 2 for 25in 8 overs got among the wickets.

Defending champion Manchester continues to win big when they defeated St. Catherine by 74 runs at Manchester High School in the parish. Manchester made 144 for 8 in the reduced 40 overs due to a pitch that was not ready at the 9:30official start time. Kevon Aanniford 40, Andre Morgan 24 and Zavier Burton 21 contributed the most runs to the total. The wickets went to Javid Fairweather 4 for 16 in 8 overs and Shaquille Criag 2 for 49 in 8 overs.

St. Catherine was however skittled out for just 70 in 26.1 overs with only Romain Bennett 15 getting into double figures. Zavier Burton 3 for 5 in 3.1 overs and Damion Spencer 3 for 6 in exactly 4 overs did the damage for Manchester.

The fourth and penultimate preliminary round of matches will be played next Monday with seven matches across the island.

Matches are scheduled for 9:30 am start and are 50 overs a-side. Teams play in their zones on a round robin basis in the end of the preliminary round after which they move into the knockout stage.
