Scores of patrons turned out for the 11th staging of the Jamaica International Invitational Meet at the National Stadium in Kingston Jamaica, last Saturday. It was an evening showcasing some of the best in the sport of track and field. With track stars like Justin Gatlin, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Nesta Carter, Kerron Stewart and Felix Sachez dominating much to the delight of their respective supporters. The night was a fulfilling composition of trail blazing sprints, endurance races, shot put, high jump and long jump.

Highlights of the evening included the “Pocket Rocket’s” sterling victory in the women’s 200m stopping the clock at 22.53 seconds ahead of USA’s Kimberly Duncan clocking 22.61 seconds. The men’s 400m hurdles was also something special, with ‘the grandfather of the race’ Felix Sanchez proving that he “still got something left” finishing ahead of the field in a time of 49.21 seconds.

Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce received an award from the Prime Minister of Jamaica and Novlene Williams-Mills received an award from the Minister with responsibility for Sports, Natalie Neita-Headley, for her contribution to sports in Jamaica. The evening ended on a high note with rivals from Boys and Girls championships battling it out on the field in the 4×4 relay. In the end both defending champions Edwin Allen High and Calabar High dominated their opposition and proved their athletic prowess yet again.
