Kerr steers Explorers to hockey title at UWI Invitational 2014

The third annual one day UWI Pelican Hockey Invitational Championship held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Mona Hockey Turf. 

The third annual one day UWI Pelican Hockey Invitational Championship held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Mona Hockey Turf. 

The inaugural Boys Under 19 competition included this year crowned Wolmers’ Boys School Hockey Team as champion, Wolmer’s beat Jamaica College Hockey Team 4 to 3, in a penalty shoot out. 

Explorers Men’s  Hockey Club dethroned the two time defending champions Circus Circle Hockey Club in a match against UWI Men’s Hockey Club 1-0, with a big goal scored by Leon Kerr at the 10th minute of the 15 minute match. 

In the Female division Tropics Womens’ Hockey Club took home the trophy in the semi-finals against UTech Womens’ Hockey Team scoring 1-0 in a penalty shoot out, the winning goal was by Shana-Kay Tullonge.

Both winning club teams each took home a grand prize for $50, 000 and a host of other gifts. 

RJay Wollen of Explorers was voted the Male MVP and Pickeisha Powell of Tropics Hockey Club took home the same as well as best goal keeper.
