Dacres continues to improve PB

University of the West Indies athlete Fedrick Dacres has begun his 2014 season with quite a bang. University of the West Indies athlete Fedrick Dacres has begun his 2014 season with quite a bang. After opening his season with a personal best in the discus of 61.31 meters at the Pure Water/JC Invitational Track and Field meet earlier this month, Dacres was back at it again at the Big Shots Invitational on Saturday January 19th.

Dacres who is quick as lightening in the circle, hurled the discus 64.36 meters to set another personal best and world leading mark.

The former Calabar stand-out who closed last season with a personal best of 59.30 meters has exceeded all expectations so far and credits the support system he has in place for his bright start to 2014.

“Hard work has been a key factor in my start to the season, but credit must be given to the support from my coach and my mother. The people on my block at Irvine are also a tremendous support and of course my ‘her’,” he said with a grin.

With no major championships, other than the Commonwealth games on the radar, Dacres has set his sights squarely on representing Jamaica at those championships in Scotland this summer.

“The plan is to push myself to the limit to see what I can achieve this year. I want to throw over 65 meters this season and the team to make this year is the one to the Commonwealth Games. So, those are the major targets for this season and at this moment I honestly believe that they are within reach,” he said.

With his season less than a month old and his performances already at such a high level, it is hard to see Dacres missing either of his targets.
