Manning wins battle of Old timers

Call them what you will: Old Timers, Ancient, Mature… Brady & P. Manning represent the oldest championship QB matchup as Manning is 37 and Brady is 36. Contrast that with Kaepernick (26) and Wilson (25) and them AFC boys be 2 old dudes in this game. At their advanced age, can they still bring it?

After a debateable non-call when Devin McCourty was all over Julius Thomas, Matt Prater split the upright and put 3 points on the board for Denver. In the 2nd quarter, Peyton chucked his usual hurry-up, yard-gobbling, quick scoring offense for a  more “OMAHA, OMAHA”  drive that chewed up time and led to a 1yd Jason Tamme TD pass where he had all of THREE options in the end-zone to throw to!  Of note, Aqib Talib was already out of the game by this, after Welker tackled him on an incomplete play and Denver got more out of that play than stats – they got a really good Pats defensive threat out of the game.

Pats got the ball back but Robert Ayres put Brady on the ground and Pats went for a field goal to score their first points of the game with 2:54 left in the half. Broncos tried to push up-field when they got the ball back but fell short on 3rd down and John Fox called off the offense and sent Matt Prater with his 25 of 26 or 96% regular season accuracy to put 3 points on the board. And the first half was in the bag at 13 – 3 Broncos.

NFL fans know that a 10 point deficit for Mr Bundchen was no threat, nothing to get all antsy about. He’ll get those points as easy as Peyton can yell “KILL! KILL”, right?

Well the only score in the 3rd quarter, a Demaryius Thomas 3yd TD, came after Peyton converted a few 3rd downs in their season‘slongest drive – 7.08 minutes. Tom missed some key passes that amped up the Pat’s pressure to score but to no avail. And what do you get a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Bronco fans? POTROAST! Yup Terrance “Potroast”Knighton sacked Brady while they were going for it on 4th down. So the 3rd quarter ends 20 – 3 Broncos.

15 minutes left, people, 15 minutes to board the train to East Rutherford!

The fourth quarter started with a drop in the end zone by orange Julius Thomas and the Fox said field goal attempt. Prater needs to change his last name (any suggestions?) as he put up 3 more points.  But Pats fans are not worrying as Brady has the ball with 10 minutes and 3 timeouts left. It can happen, he can pull this out, right?

On 4th and 3, he converted a 7 yd. pass. Smells like something is a-cooking and yup, couple plays later, Brady connected with Edelman for an easy TD. 9:26 left people, and the game’s not done yet! Its 23 – 10. Then Peyton overthrew Demaryius Thomas as they went with throwing instead of running which would have helped kill the clock. After another Prater field goal (seriously?) the Pats got the ball back, ohhhhhh, this could be the beginning of the comeback, right?

Brady was firing down the field, converting 3rd downs with ease and even doing the unthinkable….running in a TD! Ohhh, he may be “old” but he still has some legs even though between him and Manning, they have a season total of -13 rushing yards between them!  They went for 2…that would have made it a 1 score deficit with 3 minutes left. Oohhhh, it’s really going to happen for the Pats, right?

THEY GOT STUFFED AT THE 1YD LINE! Tom hung his head and showed that he knew that was the end of the game. And after Decker caught the short kick off, Denver bags started to get packed for the bright lights and busy streets of New York!

It wasn’t the 99 points game that we were expecting. Peyton put up 400 yds, 2 TDs and no INT and Brady put up 277 yds, 1 TD no INT but was sacked twice. And while their combined years of experience in the league totals 30 years, we can say – DEM OLE BUT DEM NUH COLE!
