Educator, sports organizer and sports enthusiast Wayne Robinson was honoured by his Alma Mata, Jamaica College(JC) at the 21st staging of their annual track and field development meet on Saturday January 4th on the school grounds.

Robinson who also graduated from the University of the West Indies was a Deputy Hall Chairman of Taylor Hall and an executive member of the Guild of Students during his tenure. He played on countless winning football teams for Taylor Hall, the UWI and the Pelicans Football Club.

While at JC, Robinson represented the school at cricket, football and table tennis. He excelled at cricket in high school, making the Sunlight squad in second form and eventually became an opening batsman for JC.

His first foray into education started while still a student at UWI when he cofounded and served as principal of the Undergrad school at Taylor Hall in 1983.

His next move was to found Quality Academics in 1998 and the institution has now been established among the best private high schools in the country.

Robinson is a past president and current executive member of the Jamaica Independent  School’s Association (JISA) which represents over one hundred and fifty (150) private, high, vocational and special schools in Jamaica.

Robinson received a plaque from chairman of the JC board, Mr. Michael Bernard and was surprised to be this year’s honouree.

“It is humbling to be this year’s honouree. I have been at JC since 1973 and all my sports started here. I made the Sunlight cricket squad in second form after being a non-bowling number 11 at Old Harbour Primary School. JC hones the overall person. I developed everything at this school.

“JC has done so much for me, it is easy for me to do what I do. I enjoy doing what I do. I have never considered what I do as being an effort. I consider it giving forward, not giving back. Helping kids to achieve their full potential and ensuring that future generations benefit. I am shocked to be the honouree,” he concluded.
