Veronica Campbell-Brown good to go

The disciplinary panel hearing the doping case against Jamaica’s most decorated female sprinter of all times, Veronica Campbell-Brown ruled that she did not use the  prohibited substance for performance enhancement and as such a public warning is sufficient punishment for her.

The disciplinary panel hearing the doping case against Jamaica’s most decorated female sprinter of all times, Veronica Campbell-Brown ruled that she did not use the  prohibited substance for performance enhancement and as such a public warning is sufficient punishment for her.

Campbell-Brown returned an adverse analytical finding on May 4 at the Jamaica International Invitational at the National Stadium in Kingston, which forced her to miss the World Championships in Moscow Russia in August.

The two-time Olympic 200-metre gold medallist tested positive for the diuretic furosemide, a banned substance that is often marketed under the name Lasix.

Diuretics are considered masking agents for performance-enhancers.

A spokesperson for the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association said the local body will be seeking authorization to publish the full text of its ruling.

Today’s ruling is expected to be sent to the international governing body, International Association of Athletics Federations for ratification.
