previously held by Rushell Clayton of MICO. McPherson won, going away from the field and set a new mark of 58.38 at the VMBS/Intercol Track & Field Championships yesterday.

McPherson said, “I was surprised by the time because of the strong headwind that we had had to run into, and I honestly didn’t feel I was going that fast. I feel great about getting the record and for me it’s quite an achievement.”

Despite getting the record, she revealed that the 400m is her pet event and that is where she intends to make her mark this season.

“I am in the best shape of my life,” she beamed. “I am training harder, there is more emphasis on weights to make me stronger and it is working. I feel good about my program and the progress is obvious based on the splits that I have run on relays so far this season.

“My main aim this season is to make the Jamaican national team. My personal best over 400m is 51.60 and that will be lowered significantly by the time ‘trials’ come around.  You can look out for something special from me,” she continued, flashing a pretty smile.

“I am looking forward to the UTECH Classics next week after Intercol is done.”

McPherson who ran 54.50 in her heat, will battle the field in the 400m finals today at 2:30 pm
