Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jaywant
Lele has died.

 

He died of a heart attack in Baroda on Thursday.

Thequalified umpire, as well as a former engineer with Sarabhai, he
became the honorary secretary of the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA)
in 1969.

Lele then took over the post of secretary of the BCCI in 1996
and was in charge when the match-fixing scandal broke out in 2000.

 


He subsequently lost his post to Niranjan Shah during the 2001 board
election and secretary of the Baroda Cricket Association in 2003 along
with two other officials for alleged financial irregularities and
administrative lapses.
