Humble Lion FC whipped Tivoli Gardens 4-0 at the Effortville Community Centre on Sunday to finish top of the pile of the Red Stripe Premier League after leaders at the beginning of the day, UWI FC fell 2-0 to Portmore United at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
A point behind the UWI at the start of the day, Humble Lion needed a win over Tivoli plus help from Portmore to surpass the Mona based team and claim the $1million dollar bounty.

League leaders, the University of the West Indies FC, created history on Sunday when they defeated Reno FC 1-0 to advance to the knock out phase of the Red Stripe Premier League for the very first time, in only their second season in the league.

The University of the West Indies opened up a four point gap at the top of the Red Stripe Premier League when they thrashed former champions Tivoli Gardens 4-0 in the opening fixture of the Monday Night double header, before Portmore United put on a similar 4-0 pasting on desperate Boys Town on a cold, wet night inside the National Stadium.

A 28th minute strike from the ageless Jermaine “Teddy” Johnson took Tivoli Gardens FC to a 1-0 win over defending champions Montego Bay United FC at Wespow Park on Sunday in the Red Stripe Premier League. The win also took the West Kingston based team to the top of the league with a set of matches to go in the second round of the competition.
Second placed Tivoli Gardens were held to a 0-0 draw by fourth place Humble Lion at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex in the only game between the teams in the top six of the Red Stripe Premier League on Sunday. Elton Thompson was denied the winner for Tivoli Gardens by the linesman flag in the final minute of stoppage time in an intense and gripping contest.
Tivoli Gardens should have put the game to bed in the first fifteen minutes of play after a storming start, but lived to rue the missed chances as a grateful Humble Lion left West Kingston with a precious point.
