Russia, the country that finished second on the Athletics medal table and fourth in the overall medal standings in the London Olympics, will be missing from the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, to be held this summer in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)) has come with fresh allegations regarding opposition they faced from armed federal security agents when they attempted to test Russian athletes.

The report which surfaced over the last two days stated that the Anti-doping officials in Russia are being stopped from testing athletes and were even threatened by security services with possible expulsion from the country.

Dutchwoman Dafne Schippers produced a stadium warming run en route to winning the Women’s 200m on a chilly night at the Oslo’s Exxon Mobil Bislett Games in Norway. This was the seventh stop on the IAAF Diamond League circuit.

The 2015 World Champion at 200m was away from the start and left the chasing pack for dead as she crossed the line in a Diamond League record, world leading and meeting record of 21.93 seconds.

The disappointment of not having Olympic silverware has in the past caused numerous athletes to delay their retirement and also motivate retired athletes to return to track and field. One such athlete is two-time 400m hurdles world champion, Jana Pittman.

The Australian athlete had called time on her track career in 2012, and taken on the sport of Bobsleigh.She even went on to represent her country at last year's Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Single Qualifying Standard for events at Rio 2016 Olympics

The IAAF has revised and sent forth a new set of approved qualifying standards for athletics participation at the Rio 2016, August 5-21, Olympic Games at it's 198th council meeting in Beijing earlier this year.

In previous Olympics, there was accepted A and B qualifying standards for participants in most of the track and field events.
