Former IAAF President Lamine Diack , who is the at the centre of a major scandal involving corruption and fraud, is beginning to come clean as he admitted to police on Wednesday that he asked Russia for €1.5m to run a political campaign in his native country Senegal.

The man who is facing financial prosecutions by French authorities admitted that he spoke with the former Russian Athletics Federation President and IAAF treasurer Valentin Balakhnichev about needing money.

The ex IAAF chief Lamine Diack who is now facing numerous allegations of involvement in corruption, announced his resignation as the president of the International Athletics Foundation.

In a statement released by the IAAF on Tuesday it read;

“The IAAF confirms it has tonight received a letter from Lamine Diack resigning his position as president of the International Athletics

Former President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), Lamine Diack,wherever he is today, is probably being haunted by his own proclamations made in February this year.

A German documentary in December 2014 brought to the fore some of the miriad of corruption secrecy and doping cover ups and Diack speaking a conference then was quoted as saying, "It's a difficult crisis but we will put it behind us by cleaning all this."

The days of track and field are getting much darker than President Lord Sebastian Coe had imagined, following the most recent happenings involving the implications of the former boss,Lamine Diack, his son and other dignitaries in an alleged doping corruption and a monetary bribes from Russian athletes to cover up positive drug tests.
