Hydel Prep comfortably retained the JISA/TASTEE Prep Schools National Athletics Championships on Saturday after trailing rivals Vaz Prep for the first two days of the three day event, claiming their 12th consecutive hold on the crown.

Former champions Vaz Prep school took the early lead at the 40th staging of the Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA)/TASTEE Prep Schools Athletics Championships after striking gold in the two events scored on day one of the championships inside the National Stadium on Thursday.

Hydel Prep school romped to their 11th straight and 17th overall JISA/Tastee National Prep Schools Athletics Championship title on Saturday finishing with a total of 334 points, 188 points more than second placed Mona Prep and 201 more than third placed Vaz Prep.

The emphatic margin of victory was as a result of a very balanced team that scored heavily in each class to help them storm away with the trophy long before the relays began.

Vaz Prep school held defending Alberga Cup champions Hydel Prep to a 2-2 draw in the final set of quarter-final games on Wednesday, but it was not enough to see them advance to the semi-finals as the best second place team. That honour went to Mona Prep who finished the round with six points and a goal difference of +12. Hydel had two wins and a draw to top their group.
