Elaine Thompson won silver in the women 200 meters at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China. Thompson was beaten by 100 meter silver medalist Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands in a new Championship record of 21.63. Thompson who has been the new female sprint sensation in Jamaica was very pleased with the silver medal at her first senior championship for Jamaica. Running a near perfect race Thompson ran 21.66, which makes her the second fastest Jamaican behind the great Merlene Ottey 21.64.

Very few people have it as good as Elaine Thompson. The 21 year old gets to train everyday with her hero and mentor, Shelly-Ann Fraser -Pryce. Having watched the little dynamo defend her 100m World Championship title, it is now the turn of Thompson to emulate her hero and grab gold for Jamaica in the 200m.

A fifty seven member track and field squad was announced by the Jamaica Administrative Athletics Association (JAAA) on Monday to represent the country at the World Championships in Beijing China. Top stars Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce headline a quality team that will carry the country’s hopes.

Reigning National 200 m champion and 2015 newest sprint sensation Elaine Thompson, secured top spot at the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Madrid, Spain . Bursting from the blocks and gliding down the track, a very fluid looking Thompson turned back the challenge of American Barbara Pierre and South African Carina Horn.

Elaine Thompson showed that her world leading 100m time of 10.92s at the UTech Classic in April was no fluke when she powered her way past a world class field to win the Women’s 100 meter in 10.97s at the Jamaica International Invitational Meet at the National Stadium in Kingston Jamaica on Saturday.

Elaine Thompson of the University of Technology (UTech) was the talk of the Utech Classics held at the National Stadium last Saturday. Thompson won the Women's 100m in 10.92s which was a new record for the meet, the fastest time for a woman this year and she became the 11th Jamaican woman to run under 11 seconds.

She has been in good form and just last week she ran 11.10s at the Intercollegiate Championships to take the gold medal.
