Group E favourites France got their 2014 World Cup campaign off in style when they cruised past a 10 man Honduras team in fairly one sided contest.

Honduras got off to a bright start but failed to really test the France captain, Hugo Loris, in goal. The former world champions slowly took control of the game through the efforts of Paul Pogba, Blaise Matuidi and Yohan Cabaye.

Switzerland and Ecuador produced another thriller at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with some exciting end to end football. The Europeans were made to work hard for everything but a late strike from Haris Seferovic ensured that La Nati started with a 2-1 victory.

He proved that once again yesterday, inspiring the Ivory Coast to a come from behind 2-1 win over Japan in their Group C opening encounter of the FIFA World Cup 2014. Cutting a very unhappy figure on the bench and having to watch his countrymen struggle against the slick passing Japanese, the largest “Elephant in the room” just could not wait to join the action.

The French kicks off their World Cup 2014 campaign with a match against CONCACAF representatives Honduras in today's second game. On paper this seems like a straight forward victory for Les Bleus but after seeing Costa Rica stun Uruguay Didier Deschamps men will not take this fixture lightly. Honduras are competing in their third World Cup and has never reached the knock-out stages so this is their chance to create history.

The World Cup in well and truly in full swing and come day four another South American outfit Ecuador will take on Switzerland in the day's opening encounter. The Ecuadorians are a powerful team physically but they will meet their match in their Swiss opponents who are quite robust themselves as well as mobile and crafty.

African powerhouse Ivory Coast found it tough against a very disciplined Japanese team in their opening fixture of the 2014 World Cup. The 'Golden Generation', in their last chance on the world stage had to fight hard to come from behind to clip the Samurai Blue 2-1 orchestrated by young right back Serge Aurier.

After witnessing Costa Rica getting the better of Uruguay 3-1, both Italy and England knew that getting a positive result would be vital in the fight to advance to the knock out stages of the FIFA World Cup 2014. In the heat in Manaus, the fans were treated to an exciting game but it was the Azzuri who came out on top 2-1.

The first major upset took place on Friday 13th in a game against back to back Euro and defending World cup champions Spain and runners up in the last cup Netherlands which was seeN as a replay of the World Cup finals in 2010.

In a much more entertaining game than expected, Colombia and Greece opened their 2014 World Cup campaign in a game which saw both teans pushing forward providing some attacking threat. In the end it was Colombia who ran out 3-0 winners thanks to Pablo Armero, Teofilo Gutierrez and man of the match James Rodriguez.
