Duncan McKenzie became the first champion to defend on day one of the 39th staging of the Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA)/Tastee National Prep Schools Athletics Championships inside the National Stadium on Thursday. On a day when three finals were contested, the high jump for class two and class one boys as well the girls class two long jump, McKenzie’s school, Mona Prep and St. Peter & Paul Prep were tied for first place on 20.5 points, followed by former champions Vaz Prep on 17 points.

On a cool afternoon, the diminutive McKenzie defended the Boys Class One High Jump title he won last year, but had to fight off a serious challenge from second place Blaine Byam of Quest Prep and third placed Christopher Seaton of Vaz Prep. McKenzie had needed to clear only 1.50m to win the gold last year, but was on the verge of finishing third after failing to clear 1.53m on his first two attempts while Seaton and Byam sat and watched him struggle. McKenzie got the clearance at the third attempt, but Seaton failed at 1.56m before Byam was next to be eliminated at 1.59m. After clearing 1.59m, the pint sized McKenzie then attempted to tie the meet record of 1.65m but failed to do so.

McKenzie who came into champs with the record on his mind told Yardie Sports, “I am pleased. This year I was training extremely hard. I wanted the…record of 1.65m.”

In the morning session, St. Peter and Paul teammates Probean Champagnie and Aaron Thomas battled each other for gold after seeing off third placed Shemaiah Salmon at 1.30m. Thomas could only clear 1.33m while Champagnie soared all the way to 1.45m to claim the gold medal.

In the late evening, with the stadium virtually empty, Jounee Armstrong of Vaz Prep upset favourite Lori Choy of Mona Prep to claim gold in the Class 2 Girls Long Jump. Armstrong jumped 4.27m for gold while Choy cut the sand at 4.11m for silver. Jody-Ann Daley of Hydel snatched the bronze with a 4.02m jump.

Day two will begin at 8:30am with the Class One Boys’ 400m semi-finals followed by the Class One Girls 300m semi-finals on the track. In the field, the finals of the long jump class one boys’ class and high jump class two girls will start, also at 8:30am. Four more finals are down to be contested on day two which ends at 5:20pm with the 4x200m relay open for boys.

car Your Next Hookup Other for you popular types Are you entering this year sadly single, With a solution to boost your love life? Or perhaps you are satisfied with being solo for the time being, But still open to the very idea of mingling later on? Or maybe you are more like me: romance a bit, imbibing a lot, And undecided about whether you ever want to work out or just be a bachelor(ette) endlessly? If you are categorized as any of the above categories, Or just have some time to spare, than the post is for you. at this moment, I most certainly not proclaiming to be an expert of any spanish beauty sort, So take everything I say with a touch of suspicion (And a shot of tequila for optimum effect). also, I do have some ideas for how to make best use of this coming year, And I reduced it to a trouble-free Triple Op formula (snappy, eh? ;g): opportunity or promotion + Openmindedness + Optimism = Dates (and several 'em!) there it is. My formula for dating financial freedom is one third about taking chances, And two thirds about mind-set. drive Laziness), I comment on the latter two concepts in a future column. So what does opportunities mean? in fact, It about actively finding or creating ways to meet more people. For some people, This might be very easy to do because of character, kind of business, Or already existing social circles. But rheumatoid arthritis, it does take more effort and a bigger push. So where can someone that a bit more shy, Or far more reserved, try to find good chances for mingling? Here are some suggestions (queries: Not vocalization field tested, Use at yours risk): 1. at the gym smart: There bound to be tons of fresh meat I mean new people exercising here of the year. con: it hard to make a very good first impression when you sweating, Panting, And/or gasping to suit air (Save all this for later in the relationship). spill: Ask your target hottie if that person been a member of the gym for very long. possibly, Initiate legal representative of which classes to try, Or which trainer to book a date with, And go beyond this concept. 2. At a class (previous. foods, arts, Or 'language' class) informed: Just as with looking into gym, This is an ideal time of year where lots of people are trying new things. scam: I heard from pals that we now have very few straight guys that take the kinds of classes listed above. why don't ask your target hottie to be your buddy, And exchange contact info to the deal? 3. via internet master: It can be a very reasonably priced, provided, and easy way to meet others. minus: It can be a very reasonable, in existence, And easy way for creeps to setup an interview. spill: with myself, Online dating is mostly a numbers game. what i mean, Message as many people as it takes to get a date. Just research profile after profile, Contact any and all people you like, Check your inbox regularly but not fanatically, and in the end you may meet your match, find the proper chemistry, fly fishing reel in a fish, Lava existence, be ok by cupid, E balance, Gay wedding date, J big day, Superdyke up, thus, and a lot more, and more. simply, There no excuse not to utilise. 4. con: It can be scary, disastrous, Or even a bad idea to meet a whole bunch of new people at one time, Especially if you don know whether readily available for dating. quick tip: Take a friend with you to help ease the social tension and help you produce connections with your target hotties. (And if all else fails, The two of you can always spend the time sightseeing and making fun of others ;v).
