If you are planning on only attending the final day for the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championship this year, you might just be missing out on a Friday feast of mouth-watering sprinting match ups.

Jamaica is dubbed the sprint capital of the world, and the night of the 18th of March has been dubbed “Flying Fridays” according to ISSA President and Wolmers Boys’ Headmaster Dr. Walton Small.

“We are appealing to our principals and private sector to support this year’s fourth day of the meet. The 100m final is scheduled for the Friday night and due to the magnitude of the match ups it is dubbed Flying Fridays. So rent your buses and get your students into town to enjoy a powerful night of track and field”. Small told the gathering-.

Don Wehby CEO of the title sponsor Grace Kennedy, also revealed that there is new incentive for the schools on show at this year’s championship. His company has pledged $100 million in sponsorship for 2016 and one of the new offering is that of a $25,000 dollars to any school team or individual who breaks a record at the Championship.

The athletes will be able to decide which school project they want that prize money to be spent on. Other offerings from the main sponsors will be a chance for fans in the diaspora to win a trip courtesy of the Western Union arm of Grace Kennedy. The winner will be afforded an all expenses paid trip to watch the championship live in the National Stadium.

He also revealed their new media entity Green Field Media, a project embarked upon with partnership with ISSA to ensure that revenues from the product of Champs will be increased through exclusive media rights and control.  The Grace Kennedy surplus from this project go towards expanding their inner city school support funding.

New sponsors, First Global Bank is also looking at a new venture in launching the affinity master card. This is a bank card bearing the names of the various participating schools, made available to pass students, through which they can contribute 1 % of spending with the bank to their Alma Mata.

 Lucozade will be responsible for providing isotonic rehydration to athletes over the five days of completion at Champs.

 As it relates to tickets cost and availability Chairperson of the Champs Committee, Mrs Collen Montague noted that the prices have increased this year.  Tuesday remains a free entry day, while Wednesday and Thursday will see children entry at 100 dollars and adults 500 dollars.

Bleachers ticket on Friday will be $500 for adults and $350 for children in uniform, with a cost of $3500 to access the Grandstand. Saturday’s final day will be $1500 for bleachers tickets and $4500 for the Grandstand. There is also Premiere Season Tickets available in two categories, Category One $9000 and CategoryTwo being $8000.

There will be a ticket day sale on March 12 in rural and urban Jamaica. To note however that no premier tickets will be available at the any rural outlets. The sale resumes on Tuesday March 15 at the stadium office which has been relocated to the stadium basketball court complex.

Strict security measures will be the order of the day and this year the JCF has instituted what they term a sterile area. This will be in the area between the Bob Marley statue and the stadium’s main gate. Only valid ticket holder and persons with legitimate accreditation will be allowed to enter those areas during the duration of the championship.
