Records tumble as KC and Wolmers Girls retain titles at Digicel/Anthrick Corporate Area Development Meet

On an almost completely overcast day of action at the Digicel/Anthrick Corporate Area Development Meet held last Thursday at the UWI/Usain Bolt Stadium, the athletes gave some performances to warm the hearts of fan and supporters looking on, with several new meeting records on the track and in the field.

There was a total of 35 meet records that were broken, with a few double champions emerging at the end of the days proceedings.

Among the top performances were that of Excelsior High’s Ackera Nuggent in the Girl’s Class Three 80m hurdles and the 200m.

Nuggent secured the hurdles final in time of 11.80s, erasing the old mark of 11.95s set in 2014. She returned to win the 200m final in 24.64s, dipping below the old record of 25.53s set in 2015.

Another Excelsior High athlete, Abi-Gaye Mctavish, secured an impressive double winning the Class One 800m in a record time of 2:18.90s, to erase fourth place finisher Camperdown’s Oshin Burgher record of 2:24.05s, done last year.

Convent of Mercy Academy Alpha’s Zinedine Russell also erased the Class Two old mark of 2:23.26 seconds, to win the 800m in 2:21.76 seconds.

The Class Three record also went, after Wolmerian Latifah Pinnock crossed the line in 2:21.74 seconds, removing her teammate Davia Morgan mark of 2:22.80 seconds.

McTavish led from the front in capturing the 400m final in 57.45s, before closing out her day’s duty helping her team to win the Sprint Medley final in 4:19.3 seconds.

Class Four sprinter Samoya Neil of Excelsior High won the sprint double, with 12.46 seconds and 27.70 seconds respectively.

Other record breakers on the female side came via Excelsior Renee Shaw winning the Class One 200m in 24.20 seconds, surpassing former Wolmerian Shauna Helps’ record of 24.58 seconds. Casheena Chen won for Class Two in 24.50 seconds, just under the 24.52 mark set by former Papine High athlete Tiffany James in 2014. Chen also won the Girl’s Class Two 100m hurdles final in 14.41 seconds.

Camperdown’s Rushell Burton won the Class One 100m hurdles final in 14.08 seconds, clearing the record of 14.61 done by former Immaculate athlete Jeanine Williams.

Holy Childhood’s Abigail Blake won the 70m hurdles in 11.06 seconds smashing the Raina Battick record of 11.18 seconds.

St Andrew’s Janielle Joseph erased her old mark of 58.53 seconds, to win the Class Three event in 57.40 seconds.

Camperdown’s Shannell Hibbert captured the Girl’s 400m hurdles open in a new mark of 1:03.91 seconds, a time that took out the old mark of 1:06.81 seconds.

St Andrew’s Llori Sharp clinched the Girl’s Class Three 1500m in a new time of 5:00.54 seconds, to replace the 5:20.26 seconds from 2014.

Shanice Love of Excelsior was all by herself, winning the Class One Discus final with a mark of 49.91, surpassing her own mark of 49.83 done last year. She is now in full control of the Digicel Grandprix after winning the Discus final.

Her teammate Kimberly Lugg won the Class Three final with a record of distance of 37.01m, way beyond the 31.13m from 2015.

Excelsior continued their dominance with Latifah Smith smashing the Class One Girls Shot Put mark of 11.83m, to win with a mark of 13.92m.

The old Class Three record (13.70m) didn’t survive either as Aiko Jones of Wolmers Girls hurled the Shot out to 14.23m.

In the Girls High Jump for Class One, Alpha’s Gabrielle Foster equalled the record of 1:70m to win the event.

The same thing was done in Class Three, as Khalia Jones flew over the old mark of 1:65m.

The Girls Triple Jump Open went to Danielle Spence, who erased her own mark of 11.72m, to win with a distance of 12.40m.

Noella Marie Mason gave Wolmers Girls a win in Class Three long jump with a new record of 5.30m to better the 5.20m from 2015.

The Girls 100m metres went to Alpha’s Kiara Grant (Class Three) 11.92 seconds, Wolmerian pair of Kellian Kelly (Class Two) 12.04 seconds and Trudy Williamson (Class One) 12.00 seconds.

Excelsior won two of four sprint relays capturing Class One in 46.81 seconds ahead of Wolmers 47.4 seconds and Camperdown High 47.5 seconds. They also won Class Three in 48.2 seconds, from Convent of Mercy Alpha 48.7 seconds and Immaculate Conception High 49.2 seconds.

Wolmers Girls won Class Two in 47.55 seconds, with St Andrews Girls winning the Class four final in 50. 48 seconds.

On the Boys side it was Kingston College’s Zico Campbell who won the Class Two Shot Put 16.92m and Discus 49.32m respectively.

He erased both marks of 15.32 and 47.63m, to continue a three week double title winning streak and extend his lead in the Grand Prix race.

Campion College’s Jordan Scott was again in the winners circle for a second week, wrapping up the Triple Jump Open with a record jump of 15.45m.

He removed his own record of 14.99m. The Boy’s Class Two long jump record of 6.48m was beaten by Excelsior’s Joel Morgan who won in 6.78m.

Kingston College’s Marco Dodnaughsinh won the Boys Class One 400m final in a new record of 48.36 seconds, bettering the old mark of 48.78 seconds.

The 5000m record of 16:58.94 seconds was dismantled by Kingston College’s Shane Buchanan who won in 15:30.00m.

The Class Two 100m hurdles went to Jeremy Farr who won in 14.40 seconds, dipping below the old mark of 14.61 seconds. The Class One record 14.15 seconds was also smashed by Kingston College’s Orlando Smith winning in 14.02 seconds

The Boys Class Two 800m went to Dujon Blackman of Jamaica College in a new meet record of 1:57.49 seconds, erasing last year time of 1:59.10 seconds

Excelsior’s Nathan Brown took care of the 1:54.76 seconds Class One record, to win in a time of 1:53.95 seconds.

Jamaica College’s Detroy Stewart also went under the Class Two record of 4:18.66, producing a time of 4:14.55 to win the final.

The 100 metres events produced a single record through Yashawn Hamilton who won Class Two final in 10.79 seconds, beating the old mark of 10.98 seconds.

Class One went to St Georges Jelani Tucker 10.56 seconds, Class Three went to Kingston College’s Javian Johnson 11.57 seconds.

Ackeemo Minott of St Georges College 21.40 seconds and Gaynstead Travis Williams 22.20 won the Class One and Two 200m finals.

The Boys sprint medley went to Mona high 3:39.0 seconds ahead of Papine High 3:43.30 seconds.

St George’s mile relay team captured that event in a new record of 3:17.17 ahead of Kingston college 3:19.12 seconds and Mona high 3:20.19 seconds.

The Class Two Sprint relay final went by Wolmers Boys in a new meet record of 42.20 seconds ahead of Kingston college 43.31 seconds and Mona high 44.42 seconds.

The Class One sprint relay record of 42.05 seconds, was beaten by Excelsior High 41.25 seconds, from Mona high 43.37 seconds and Papine high 43.54 seconds. Class Three went to Kingston College in 44.8 seconds.
