ST JAGO SHOWS TRUE STRENGTH AT QUEENS GRACE JACKSON INVITATION

The 15th renewal of the Queen’s Grace Jackson Track meet saw some very good performances on the track and in the field on Saturday January 30th. Chief amongst the teams on show were the ladies from Monk Street, St Jago High school. The meet went off at 8:30 with running over 400m, where the Kelondo Golbourne coached, ladies team enjoyed two of three victories in the event, as Alesha Kelly won a tantalizingly close Class One final in 53.91s, just ahead of Ashley Williams, Holmwood Tec in 54.96s.

Further consolidating the St Jago strength in this event and chance at the Champs mile relay gold, third to fifth were Shanice Reid, 55.16 seconds, Andrenette Knight, 55.28 and sprinter Natalliah Whyte 55.81 seconds.

Cayman junior athlete Shalysa Wray, also campaigning for St Jago, secured the Class Two final in 56.62, ahead of St Mary’s High Keresa Richardson, 57.03S and Denbigh High’s Kimorla Muschette 57.74 seconds.

St Mary High enjoyed victory in Class Three with Shanoi Powell coming away with 57.27 seconds to beat Holmwood’s Daniella Deer 57.90 seconds and St Jago’s Joanne Reid in 58.64 seconds.

The Boys events had good returns for St Jago High as well, except Class Three where young Devontae Heywood of Munro College copped the top spot with 52.40s with Kingston College’s Shanthamoi Brown second in 52.47s and St Jago’s Jevana Edwards 52.87s.

St Jago’s Anthony Cox continued his good early season with victory in Class Two in 48.92s, with teammate Javad Black timed in 49.70s and Brandon Heath of Calabar in 49.78s.

It was St Jago’s Collin Sewell coming away victor in the Class 1 final with a decent effort of 47.58s, ahead of Rojay Grandston of Holmwood in 48.13s and Marco Doodnaughtsingh of Kingston College in 48.26s.

Abigail Blake continued to impress in the Class Four 70 Meter Hurdles, romping to a new meet record of 10.70 sec, ahead of Raevon Morris of Convent of Mercy Alpha 11.05sec and Dayshanae Hall of St Jago 11.08 sec.

The spotlight was once again on the St Jago girls who won all their heats to secure three of the top four times in the 80 Meter Hurdles Class 3. The winner was Kimome Mcleod in 11.82 sec, ahead of Excelsiors’ Ackera Nugent 11.93 sec, third went to Crystal Morris 11.95 sec and Rosalee Cooper 12.10 finished fourth for St Jago.

The Class Two final went to Jada Thomas of Immaculate High, 14.69 sec, clipping Excelsior’s Kaciann Cowan 14.77 sec and St Jago’s Jynell Graham 14.81 sec.

Holmwood Technical’s Nicole Foster was smooth in victory, winning Class One in 14.20 sec ahead of Andrenette Knight of St Jago in 14.25 sec and Renee Shaw of Excelsior 14.30 sec.

Calabar High secured the quenella in the Boys Class Three hurdles through Shavon Carr in 14.28s and Oratio Craig 14.31s , with Rahyme Christian of Clarendon College finishing third in 14,35s.

It got one better for Calabar in the Class Two finals with defending champion for Boys Champs Dejour Russell speeding to new meet record of 13.38, smashing the old mark of 13.71sec. Teammmates Orlando Bennett, 14.48 seconds and Micheal Stephens 14.38 sec, won their heats to notch the top three spots.

A fine hurdles day continued for Calabar, with Seanie Selvin winning the Class One event in 14.40 sec, ahead of Odario Phillips of Jamaica College 14.46s and his teammate Alex Robinson in 14.56s.

Despite the St. Jago ladies turning out a host of sprinting sensations, Holmwood’s teammate Captain Shanta Deer ensured she was top winning Class One 200m in 24.28s, leading home the St Jago trio of Alesha Kelly 24.44s, Shanice Reid 24.45s and British Virgin Island star Nelda Huggins 24.51s.

Kimone Shaw ensured that it was St Jago’s way in the Class Two winning in 24.98s ahead of teammate Shaniel English 25.06s and St Catherine’s Annakay Allen in 15.17s.

The Class Three final went to St. Catherine’s Julien Alfred in 25.12s, ahead of Immaculate’s Shnaunelle Wallace 25.34 sec and St Jago’s Joanne Reid in 25.48 sec.

Saskieka Steele of Holmwwood Tec stole victory in Class Four in 25.68s ahead of St Mary’s Sydonie McIntosh 26.02s. and the St Jago trio of Shantae Williams 26.04s, Dane Nembhard 26.27s and Renee- Ashley Jackson 26. 46s.

Andel Miller produce a brilliant finish to win the Class One Boys, 200m final in 21.08s, ahead of Clarendon’s College Oshane Gowdie 21.27 and Holmwood’s Eric Lewis 21.30.

Michael Stephen went two spots better for Holmwood, winning the Class Two event in 22.03 sec, ahead of Excelsior’s Craig Campbell 22.20s and Jamaica College’s Colby Jennings 22.45 sec.

Clarendon College’s Rahyme Christian relegated Kingston College’s Shanthamoi Brown and teammate Davion Williams to second and third respectively, by winning the ClassThree 200m final in 23.29s to Brown’s 23.40 sec and 23.50s for Williams.

Missing the Meet Record of 3:43.86 set by Manchester in 2008, Holmwood Technical High 3:45.04 sec won the Open 4×400 relay with ease, ahead of
Holmwood Technical High (Girls ‘B’ ) 3:55.47 and Rusea school ‘A’ 4:00.22 sec. The Men 4×400 Meter Relay Open went to Holmwood Technical (Boys) ‘B’ 3:17.40 ahead of Munro College ‘B’ 3:21.93 and Bridgeport High School ‘A’ 3:22.08.

The Boys Triple Jump Under 20 went to Obrien Wasome of Jamaica College with 15.73m ahead of teammate Clayton Brown 14.95m and Aubrey Allen G C Foster College 14.76m.

The Under 18 event went to Malik Cunningham 13.38m ahead of Calabar Kirstoffee Clifford 14.11m. The Under 18 High Jump went to Ashley Brown of Immaculate 1.65m, ahead of St Jago’s pair of Ackivah Williams 1.60m and Kasheena Gordon 1.60m. The boy’s equivalent went to Micheal Davis of Kingston College 2.00m, ahead of teammate Shane Nelson 1.95m

Romario Douglas of St Jago equalled his meet record of 2.05m to win the Boys High Jump U 20 ahead of teammate Lushane Wilson 2.00m and Leroy Page of Calabar 2.00m.

Kingston College’s Zico Campbell was a double winner on the day copping the Boys Under 20 Shot Put with 16.58m and returned to win the Under 17 Discuss final in 47.16m.

Shanice Love of Excelsior won the Girls Under 20 Discuss event with 49.17m, ahead of St Jago’s Janell Fullerton 42.92m. Twani Myles of Rusea’s High 38.29m won the Under 18 event.

Immaculate Conception had a clean sweep in the Under 17 Girl’s shot put through Kadian Clarke 14.12m, Gabrielle Bailey 13.33m and Tyefah Saunders 13.52m.

The Under 20 girls Shot Put went to Fullerton with 13.70m, with Calabar’s Warren Barrette winning the male event in 19.18m, ahead of teammate Ceasar Kemp 16.65 and Vashon McCarthy of Jamaica College 16.13m.

The Under 20 Triple Jump for Girls went to Wolmers’ Danielle Spence with 12.61m and the Under 18 event went to Moyesha Nott of Ruseas 12.27m.

The Boys Long Jump Class 3 was painted purple with the top four spots going to Kingston College through Scott Mcleod 5.64m, Davion Williams 5.47m, Tahjay Axable 5.30m and Daquan Henry 5.26m.
