Kingston College extended their dominance in junior football beyond the Urban area on Tuesday when their Under 14 and Under 16 football teams both crowned themselves All-Island Champions at the Spanish Town Prison Oval Field following wins over Glenmuir High and Munro College respectively. The U-14’s won 2-1 while the U-16’s won 3-0 to complete their seasons unbeaten as the school experienced a revival in the sagging football fortunes.

In the opening encounter, Kingston College enjoyed most of the possession in the opening minutes as they looked dangerous going forward with a lot of pace upfront. They were made to work hard as the Glenmuir defense cleared their lines in a hurry. KC did finally break the deadlock in the 20th minute through Davion Williams who used his head to direct a Jermaine Hue right sided corner into the back of the net. KC continued to dominate the game from there on as Glenmuir failed to put together passes and move the ball out of their own half.

Glenmuir would have felt lucky to go to the break trailing by only one goal, after KC looked as if they were going run riot.

After the break KC continued to dominate but failed to capitalize on their chances as they were very wayward with their shots in front of goal. KC could have easily put the game to bed but striker Shanthamoi Brown wasted a glorious opportunity to do so.

Glenmuir gained in confidence and started going forward more regularly which resulted in them getting back on level terms in the 66th minute. Robert McDonald fired home a shot from a left sided corner that caught the KC defense sleeping. It was a beautiful volley from the young midfielder who caught it sweetly in the middle of his instep and celebrated wildly after the shot flew into the top corner of the net.

Kingston College could not transition from midfield from there as Glenmuir looked solid in the middle of the park ensuring they did not concede in regular time and the game went to extra time.

Brown who could not find his shooting boots in regular time made up for his earlier errors and got the winner in the third minute of extra time. He used his blazing speed to outpace the Glenmuir defence and then remained composed to place the ball beyond the advancing custodian and into the corner of the net to make it 2-1.

Glenmuir ended the match with ten players, when Jemay Hayles was shown a second yellow for violent conduct.

Like they have been doing all season, the Kingston College Under 16 team has watched their Under 14 counterparts win and then followed suit.

Kingston College started out with most of the possession and looked threatening but Munro looked solid at the back.

Munro then found their feet and took control of the midfield, pushing the KC team back as they hunted the game’s opening goal.

But KC pounced midway the half when they hit their opponents on the counter. A brilliant right sided cross from Micheal McDonald was well finished by Jahmal Pusey in the 20th minute to give the Purples the lead.

On the resumption, KC took total control of the game, as Munro looked flat and disorganize and only left KC to run rings around them.

Just minutes after been on the field Trevaun Reid put a bit of safety on the title for KC when he stayed composed in the 18 yard box to find the back of the net in the 75th.

Horace Ramsey then put the game to bed in stoppage time when he rifled a shot in the top corner of the goal from the top of the box for an emphatic 3-0 win for the Raymond Watson coached team.

“It’s been the most successful season I have been involved with,” a delighted Watson told Yardie Sports. “To experience it (winning) with two teams going unbeaten and winning four titles, this is an amazing feat in itself. It’s been a fantastic season,” he concluded.
