Kingston College continued their fantastic run in this season’s ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup competition when they racked up their fourth straight win to increase their strangle hold on Group G at the half way stage of the opening round. Saturday’s 2-0 win at Jose Marti means the famed ‘Purples’ now have 12 points and have gained their third clean sheet as well.

The Ludlow Bernard coach Kingston College have looked more dangerous each time they play this season putting in some ruthless and disciplined performances.

KC took control of the game early and found a very good rhythm with a lot of pace upfront, running at the Jose Marti defense. Jose Marti did not have an answer and could have trailed as early as the 10th minute, when Kingston College leading goal scorer Rashawn McKinson choose to pass a ball rather than trying to find the back of the net from 8 yards with a lot of space to work with.

McKinson did make up for that two minutes later, playing a ball between two Jose Marti defenders for striker Richard Byfield , who finished off the well measured cross that left goal keeper Shakkure Smith with no chance.

Jose Marti aome alive after the goal and tried to get one back before half time but the Kingston College defense was very organized was not taking any prisoners.

The home team’s best goal scoring opportunity came just before the referee signaled the end of the first half. Shackeem Campbell got a loose ball inside the six yard box but could only manage to hit the cross bar, sparing the blushes of the visitors.

Kingston College started the second half in a similar way to the first half, Campbell forcing a save from the Jose Marti custodian just inside the 18 yard box in the 50th
minute. The passes were really working for KC as they tried to break down Jose Marti, who was getting physical and was in a constant hurry to clear their lines.

The game became very physical as the tackles were very hard from both teams. Jose Marti was getting a few passes together but just did not have what it took to break down a well disciplined and organize KC defense.

The combination of Aqueam Campbell and Jahmal Pusey in minute 80th ensured the North Street team had a bit of breathing space. Campbell played a brilliant ball from the center circle to Pusey who flicked the ball with his head before Shakkure Smith in goal could have come and claimed the ball.

Nickardo Hanchard should have got his name on the score sheet just before the referee final whistle, Rashawn Mckinson brilliant pass that caught the Jose Marti defense flat footed was kick wide by Hanchard who had only the goal keeper to beat.

“We knew it would be a tough contest and playing good defensively was our main aim and finding the rights moments in order to get the go ahead goal and we were fortunate to get an early goal” a happy Ludlow Bernard said.

“We started off fairly even and we made a few defensive error and we paid the cost but overall it was a good game and I thought that KC was the better team on the day, our aim is to still make it to the second round,” said Calvert Fitzgerald.
