LIME Sponsors Eastern Championship 2015

Eastern Championships,Champs Fever 215,

Telecommunications firm LIME will come on board to boost this year’s staging of the Eastern Championships 2015. Each year, the highly anticipated meet is hosted on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday at the National Stadium. However this year will see the event happening for just one day, Tuesday, February 17th

Richard Thompson representing meet organizers says the involvement of LIME will greatly boost the delivery of this year’s staging. “We are extremely happy this year to have the support of a corporate entity like LIME providing support for this developmental meet.”

“Having lost our long standing sponsor due to a shift of their marketing thrust, we are elated that LIME has stepped in to rescue the Eastern Schools. LIME’s involvement will go a long way in helping to offset some of the costs with which we are currently faced” he added.

So far 22 schools in the parishes of St. Thomas, Portland, St. Mary, East & West Rural St. Andrew and St. Catherine have confirmed participation in this year’s meet. They include Annotto Bay High, Brimmer Vale High, Buff Bay High, Fair Prospect High, Glengoffe High, Happy Grove High, Iona High, Islington High, Morant Bay High, Oberlin High, Paul Bogle High, Port Antonio High, Robert Lightbourne High, Seaforth High, St. Mary’s College, St. Mary High, St. Mary Technical High, St. Thomas Technical High, Tacky High, Titchfield High, Yallas High and Marymount High.

Eastern Champs has resulted in the emergence of some of the island’s finest athletes, who have gone on to represent Jamaica at several levels in track and field and in other spheres of life. Olympians such as Juliet Cuthbert and Hansle Parchment, formerly of Morant Bay High School are among the student athletes who have emerged from/through the Games.

The event, which dates back to the 1960s, is a major meet on the high school track and field calendar and serves as a qualifier for the National Boys’ and Girls’ Track and Field Championships.
