Kiara Grant regarded as the star athlete in the Convent Of Mercy “Alpha Academy” track and field camp picked up where she left off from last season when she blazed to an 12.19 at the Jamaica College/Pure Water Development track meet bettering the 12.24s done at the same meet last year.

Her display on the track is almost a mirror image of her track idol and role model Olympic and World Champion Shelly- Ann Frazer- Pryce. The little dynamo dominated the class four sprints at the 2014 staging of the Annual Boys and Girls Championship winning the 200m in 25.08 seconds and the 100m in an impressive 11.98s.

Stepping up into a new class, this season she looks ready to ambush whomever comes her way throughout the season. Some of her main rivals this season will be the familiar faces in Shaunelle Wallace of Immaculate Conception High, Ashanti Moore of Hydel High, St jago’s pair Sashel Frater and Rosealee Cooper, as well as Seaforth High school Kimara Francis.

But Grant has placed a bulls-eye on the back of the Class 3 champions of 2014 Kimone Shaw and the main target she has set for the season is to take the crown for herself.

Speaking with Yardie Sports after her performance Grant said, “I see myself as the main rival of Kimone Shaw and my aim this season is to win. I have two aims this season, to run 11.44 and to beat Kimone Shaw.”

The shy, soft-spoken Grant is often compared to her idol and she finds it very flattering.

“Everyone always compares me to Shelly-Ann because I am always confident when I run.”

And just like Nancy Lopez once said “ Great champions have an enormous sense of pride. The people who excel are those who are driven to show the world and prove to themselves just how good they are” , Grant will looking to set to bring more glory to herself, her family and her school community at the 2015 Boys and Girls Championships.
