Netball Jamaica and the Sunshine Girls head to rural netball powerhouse Holmwood Technical High School today for the second stop on their high school tour.

Sunshine Girl Nicole Dixon who recently returned from her first Fast5 will be going to her alma mater Holmwood which she helped to win several high school competitions along with Vangelee Williams.

They will present netballs from kit sponsor Gilbert to the school coach Karlene Graham who also coached the Manchester Spurs in the Berger Elite League. They will also deliver literature to the guidance counseling department that is geared towards directing the students to a healthy lifestyle and away from sexual activities which could lead to teenage pregnancy. The literature is provided by the United Population Fund which is using the sport of netball as a medium to deliver their message.

The Girls will conduct a number of classroom talks with the students about discipline, and managing school work and sports success as well as discuss their journey as Sunshine Girls. Several of the senior netballers are students at universities across the island. They plan to do demonstration of some of their skills and share some netball secrets with the young netballers.

The Girls will then head to Foga Road on Thursday for the third stop.

Some of the netballers who will be visiting the schools include Jhaniele Fower-Reid who was last Friday listed on the world’s top ten list for the second year in a row. The touring Sunshine Girls group will include combinations of Vangelee Williams, 2013 Fast5 MVP Thristina Harwood, Nicole Dicon, Khadijah Williams and Shanice Beckford.

The Sunshine Girls squad is currently in serious preparation for the up-coming series which is geared towards the 2015 World Championship later in the year. Preparation is on-going despite the problems being encountered in finding a proper training venue as they are not able to trains at the Leila Robinson Courts or the National Indoor Sports Centre at this time.
