Jamaica’s Nicholas “The Axeman” Walters improved his unbeaten international record, after racking up his 25th straight win, in a 6th round TKO victory over the ,Nonito “ Philiipino Flash” Donaire their WBA Featherweight crown in Carson, California on Saturday.

A cagey opening by Walters gave way to some aggressive shots that hurt Donaire. The 28-year-old Jamaican warrior used his five-inch reach advantage to dominate almost the entire fight. Donaire had a moment at the end of the second round where he hurt Walters with a hard left hook, but it came right before the bell rang.

The Phillipino actually survived a standing count in round three after a devastating upper cut from Walters. Some blood started to flow from Donaire’s right eye as the Jamaica “Axeman” turned up the pressure at the start of the fourth round.

Two rounds later the Montego Bay native landed a chopping right hand bomb which floored Donaire.

Walter’s victory came after 2 minutes and 59 seconds in round six of his 25th fight to keep his unbeaten record intact. Walter’s professional record now stands at (25-0, 21 KO).

Walters now looks forward to a bright future, as he announced himself to those who never knew him. His next fight could see him taking on another young star in WBO champion Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachenko in a unification bout.

With last night’s victory Walters has now presented himself as a frontrunner for Jamaica’s Sportsman of the Year for 2014.
