Young Sunshine Girls give back

Mandela Day 2014 003

The young Sunshine Girls completed its Nelson Mandela Day activity at the Learning and Activity Centre, Bustamante Children’s Hospital on a high note for both the Netball Jamaica team and the children.

The day took the form of a talent show for everyone present. Unfortunately, no photographs can be taken of the activities inside the hospital, so we just have the memories of the applause and smiles on the faces of the children and staff. Lots of the parents and medical staff stopped by when they heard the sounds emanating from the Learning Centre.

The teacher in charge of the Centre, Miss Anderson welcomed us and eagerly incorporated the girls into the days activities. Songs, dialect verses etc. were performed by the girls who participated. We closed the session of with a dance time which saw Adean Thomas leading the charge by asking the children to show a move and this was imitated by the others.

The gifts of the stuffed toys and books were greatly appreciated. I can only tell you all that it was priceless to see the smiles on the faces of these children. I was overcome with the joy and surprise they conveyed in accepting the gifts.

The attached picture shows the Netball Jamaica group with Miss Anderson (in purple shirt) from the hospital outside the learning and Activity Centre.

Great thank you must also go to Miss Cooper-Brown who made the arrangements for us to do our activity there. She also expressed gratitude to us for remembering the children there.

We will be making this institution Netball Jamaica’s community outreach programme by adopting the Learning & Activity Centre. (All the formal arrangements will be made by the GM) We will endeavour to visit the Centre at least once per month.
