Mixed morning for Jamaica at IAAF World Indoor Championships on Day 1

Four Jamaicans progressed to the semifinals of the 400 meters this morning. In the women’s event, Patricia Hall (52.19) finished third in her heat but qualified on time while Kalise Spencer (52.26) won her heat to advance. The semifinals will be run later today (14:25 local time)

In the Men’s equivalent, both Edino Steele (46.38) and Ahkeem Gauntlett (46.85) finished second in their respective heats to book their passage to the next round. At 15:15 they will both be in the hunt for a spot in the final.

 

In the Women’s triple jumps, Kimberly Williams needed only one jump to clear the qualifying mark of 14.30m. Her distance of 14.35m puts her into tomorrow’s final beginning at 12:05pm.

 

Unfortunately, O’Dayne Richards who had a personal best of 19.77m failed to advance in the men’s Shot Put while Natoya Goule who also produced a personal best of 2:01.89 just missed out on advancing in the women’s 800m.

 

Five Jamaican’s will bow into action in the day’s second session.

 

Team captain Nesta Carter and Kimmari Roach will both face the starter in the 60m at 12:40pm after Indira Spence and Monique Morgan take on a talented field in the women’s 60m hurdles at 12:05 pm.

 

The talented Demar Forbes will go at 13:20pm in the men’s long jump.
