Thomas is Top Coach in RSPL

Harold Thomas, the coach of defending champions Harbour View, has been named the China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) Star Coach of the Round for the first round of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season 2013-2014.

Harold Thomas, the coach of defending champions Harbour View, has been named the China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) Star Coach of the Round for the first round of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season 2013-2014.

Thomas took over head coaching duties at the club at the beginning of the season, from Vin Blaine who took up responsibilities with the National team. Blaine had guided the team to the title last season in what was a dominant performance.

Harbour View had a less than auspicious start to the beginning of this season but have rebounded since then. Of the eleven games that he has led his young charges out on the field Thomas has been nominated six times – a very proud record to have.

As a true leader does, he knows not only how to direct his team when things are good but possesses the ability and personality also to guide them through difficult games and periods, calmly.

After seeing his team pick up a meager one point from the first three games of the season, his skilful guidance, coupled with his fatherly persona allowed his charges to appear composed all the time. His team has since hit a purple patch gaining a massive 22 points from a possible 24, surging to the top of the RSPL.

His admiration for two of the games fundamentals – respect and discipline – made him a clear choice among the selectors. Within his own character, he suitably met the required criteria. His disciplinary record for the Round was unblemished. The Match Commissioners were complimentary of him in their reasons for his selection.

Thomas lauded the group that he has had to work with which he says must be credited for the success to date. “What we have achieved so far is definitely due to team effort and due recognition must be given to the group.

“We will be looking to consolidate our position in the second round because as you know it is a new format, so we must first qualify for the knock-out round then put in place the necessaries to win,” he said.

In addition to a plaque recognizing his achievements, Thomas also received a cheque valued at $75,000.
