It took two late goals, in an enthralling contest for Lannamans Prep school to see of Vaz Prep in the semifinals of the JISA Prep School Henriques Cup on Wednesday November 27th at the UWI Bowl.

A balanced first half was played out mostly in the middle of the park as the two evenly matched teams fought tooth and nail to get control of the game in the hunt for a coveted spot in the final.

Zidane Barnes of Vaz Prep battled the likes of Odane Ximines in midfield as the two teams stood toe to toe in a fierce and exciting contest. Both sets of defenders were up to the task when called upon as the half ended 0-0.

The second half was much in the same vain as the first and just when it appeared that we would be in for extra time, Lannamans struck. Cavier Stevens made a good dribble down the right hand side before delivering an inch perfect cross for Timar Dunn to side foot home in the 69th minute. It was a well taken onetime effort as he raced past the Vaz Prep defenders who were caught cold.

Before Vaz could figure out what had happened they were taking the ball out of the back of the net as hesitation on the part of captain Scott who failed to clear the ball allowed Janoi Williams to pounce making it 2-0 in the 60th minute.

Nigel Webb was happy to see of his bogey team, “It was a very intense game. The boys were focused and spent time vizualising the game before hand. Vaz is a hard running team and they didn’t give us a lot of space to play our usual passing game.

“It was a very good game and Vaz is the only school to have scored on us in open play in the last two years. We are really happy for this win,” he concluded.
