Norman Manley High School improved on their standings in Group B when they whipped Waterford High 4-0 in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/LIME Manning Cup football competition at Maxfield Park yesterday.

The Alric Clarke coached outfit were winning their second game from three following a 2-2 draw in their first game and then a 2-0 victory against St. Jago High School and Cumberland respectively.

‘Manley’ as they are synonymously known went ahead when captain and leading striker, Jamoy Green, fired home a beautiful free kick past Waterford goalkeeper early in the second half.

He continued his rich goal scoring form from the spot again, only thing it was from 12 yards this time, as he calmly slotted home after they were awarded a penalty resulting from an deliberate handball by a Waterford defender midway the second half.

The boys in blue continued their dominance but had to wait until the 81st minute for another goal when Kemoy Lewis headed a left-side corner kick past Shakkur Smith in goal. The points were made safe in the 89th minute when substitute Shawn Wright raced clear and slotted home neatly, sending the large crowd on hand in a frenzy..

Despite the comprehensive win, Norman Manley coach still had areas where he wanted to work on.

“It was an ugly performance from my team. However, I am happy with the win” Miguel Coley, head coach of Norman Manley, said at game’s end.

For their part, Waterford were simply overwhelmed by a better opponent and offered little resistance during the second half of the game.

With the victory, Norman Manley moved to seven points, two behind group leaders Excelsior after three games.
